Serbian police and Army start joint exercise in several locations in Serbia

In several locations in Serbia, a joint tactical exercise with the use of live ammunition, "Zajednicki Odgovor 2023" ("Joint Response 2023") started early this morning, during which the forces of the Serbian Army and units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) will practice the execution of an offensive operation.

Parts of the General Staff of the Serbian Army, the Land Army, the Air Force and Air Defense, the Training Command, the 72nd Special Operations Brigade and the 63rd Parachute Brigade, as well as the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit, the Gendarmerie, intervention and helicopter units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, are all participating in the exercise.

The general goal of the exercise, which is being implemented this week and the next, is to improve training and capabilities of the Army and police forces in jointly solving tactical and fire tasks during the preparation and execution of a combat operation, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

In the preparatory phase, activities are carried out at the units' bases, while in the active phase, the joint force will practice combat operations at permanent and temporary training ranges. In the final part, the state leadership and the public will see some of the training activities at the temporary training ground Pester, as well as the training and equipment in service in the Army and the police.

As part of the preparations for the implementation of activities on the ground, a command and staff exercise supported by computer simulations "Odgovor 2023" was carried out last week, within which, in a simulated environment, the competence of the training commands for planning and execution of operations was checked.

Combined tactical exercises with the use of live ammunition represent the most complex form of training in the Serbian Army. Their realization improves both the ability of the commands to plan operations and command forces, as well as the ability of units to carry out combat operations, independently and in cooperation with other formations.
