The leader of the Serbian Progressive Party, Aleksandar Vucic, said last night during a party gathering that the campaign to collect illegal and legal weapons has seen citizens hand in 20,000 pieces of weapons and explosive devices.

After the session of the party's Presidency, Vucic said that this is a very serious figure, that the campaign is continuing and accelerating.

"We are safer by that amount of weapons and mines and explosives," said Vucic.

He also said that everything is ready for the party's Assembly on May 27 in Kragujevac and that at that time, 4,000 delegates will elect a new leadership and make a decision on the party's entry into a new, broader movement.

"What is important is for the party to prepare and be ready for all challenges, with a new leadership," said Vucic.

He added that the meeting also discussed pressure related to Kosovo and Metohija, as well as a report submitted by the director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic.

"There is a de facto plan whose essence is that we should de facto recognize them (Pristina), while they do nothing. The biggest party supported us in finding a compromise, but to protect the national interest of Serbia," said Vucic.

He said that the economic situation was also discussed.

"We will instruct the Government to start the reform of public companies, to be more open in bringing in investors, but also to solve people's problems," said Vucic.

Vucic added that it is normal that people who are in the largest party (i.e., his own) come under criticism, and that they must talk more with citizens and listen to the people and accept their complaints.
