Today, Serbia is under the influence of a strong cyclone, whose center is over Italy. Under the influence of this low air pressure field, it will be mostly cloudy in Serbia today, with occasional rain and thundershowers.

The position of the cyclone is such that Serbia is in its front part and southerly high altitude currents prevail.

So, this kind of synoptic situation has led to a considerable amount of sand from the Sahara being transported to our area via the Mediterranean from North Africa, so the rain that fell yesterday and will continue today and tomorrow will contain particles of desert sand.

"Dirty" rain will fall in many areas of Serbia, and whether the precipitation will be red, yellow or some other color will also depend on which area of the Sahara the sand had arrived from.

This sand reaches our area when strong winds lift the sand particles high above the Sahara, often over 5 kilometers or more. Then this sand is transported by the southerly current across the Mediterranean Sea. The air mass on the way to Serbia becomes rich in moisture and the precipitation that falls contains the said particles.

This phenomenon is completely natural and common in the current weather situation.

It will be very windy in Serbia today under the influence of the cyclone, and the south-east the wind in the Kosava region will reach gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour in southern Banat.

The maximum temperature today will be from 18°C in the northwest to 24°C in the southeast of Serbia, around 20°C in Belgrade.

There will be rain and showers with thunder until Friday across the country. Wednesday will bring significantly more sun and warmer weather, with temperatures from 20 to 25°C, while Thursday, due to penetration of a cold front with a fresher air mass from the north, will bring a drop in temperature that will range from 15 to 20°C, in Belgrade up to 16°C.

A partial clearing is expected on Friday and it will be an introduction into somewhat more stable, but also significantly warmer weather during the weekend.
