Gruesome details involving a mother from Kovin: She was poisoning her baby with a drug for schizophrenia

A.N. (21) from Kovin was arrested on suspicion of giving her 6-month-old baby the drug ONZAPIN, which is used to treat schizophrenia, and the child was admitted to the Dr. Vukan Cupic hospital in a state of catatonia, Telegraf has learned.

"The doctors sent a notice to the prosecutor's office in which they said that the child was receiving the drug ONZAPIN, which is used to treat schizophrenia. The child is 6 months old, had seizures, was in a state of catatonia, literally looked like a plant (when it was admitted to the hospital)... It was treated for 12 days, it was in a very serious condition, in effect fighting for its life. That drug is very dangerous and can cause permanent consequences. Doctors discovered that the drug was administered to the child, and the mother was immediately arrested. Otherwise, there were no reports of violence in this family, nor had the mother been taken into custody before," a source from the investigation told us.

Based on the proposal of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Smederevo, and on suspicion that she committed the criminal offense of facilitating the consumption of narcotic drugs and the criminal offense of neglecting and abusing a minor, the suspect A.N. (21) has been detained for up to 30 days, because of circumstances that indicate she he will interfere with the proceedings by influencing the witnesses, as well as that she will repeat the criminal offense in a short period of time.

It is suspected that in the night between April 26 and 27, 2023, the suspect gave her six-month-old child an antipsychotic - the drug ONZAPIN, after which the baby, a girl, was hospitalized at the Institute for Mother and Child named after Dr. Vukan Cupic.

The prosecution obtained this information based on a report from this healthcare institution, after which, in cooperation with the competent police department, the arrest of the suspect was organized upon her discharge from the institution where she was, together with the child, hospitalized in the period from April 27 until May 12.

The suspect was immediately detained by order of the public prosecutor on duty, and due to the fact that, after a risk assessment was done, it was concluded that there was an immediate danger of domestic violence, she was simultaneously temporarily removed her from her apartment and given a temporary restraining order preventing her from contacting or approaching the victim of violence.
