In two days, eight earthquakes hit Sjenica in southwestern Serbia

In the last two days Sjenica has been constantly shaking. During that time, eight earthquakes were recorded.

As announced on the website of the Seismological Survey of Serbia, Sjenica began to shake on the morning of May 10, shortly after 6 am. On that day, two earthquakes of magnitudes 2 and 2.1 were recorded an hour apart.

On the morning of May 11, around 4 o'clock, the ground in Sjenica shook for the third time, also with a magnitude of about 2 degrees. A slightly weaker, fourth earthquake was recorded around noon, and yesterday, after 5 pm, the instruments recorded an earthquake measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale.

Two more earthquakes in a short period of time hit Sjenica. One happened last night around 8 pm, and the other after midnight.

"The theoretical intensity in the epicenter was estimated at III degrees on the Mercalli scale. Earthquakes of this intensity cannot cause damage to buildings in the area of the epicenter," the Seismological Survey's site said.
