"Man stood in school yard shooting at kids on a bench": Mladenovac massacre eyewitnesses speak

"I heard shots, at least 10 shots were fired. I thought they were firecrackers, I ran out of the house and saw a man standing in the school yard and shooting at kids sitting on a bench. I immediately called the police and the ambulance and said that a guy was killing people. Then I ran into the house and locked myself in," said an eyewitness to the mass murder that took place near Mladenovac, a Belgrade municipality, late on Thursday night.

The suspect is now in police custody after killing 8 people and wounding 14 others around midnight last night. He was arrested after 8 hours of active search.

After committing the crime, Uros B. fled, but was this morning around 8 o'clock arrested in his relatives' house near the town of Kragujevac, where he was hiding.

After killing 8 people and injuring 14, he kidnapped a taxi driver.

A passenger, a woman, was also in the taxi.

Uros B. is said to have been "armed to the teeth."

The youngest victim is only 15 years old.

He used an automatic rifle to open fire on people in two villages, killing a 22-year-old policeman and the officer's 19-year-old sister in Dubona.

D.T. (25) was also killed in Dubona. The victims killed in the territory of Smederevo have been identified with their initials as M.M. (18), N.S. (21), L.M. (20), N.M. (15) and A.M. (18).

Uros B. has a police record, but no convictions.

He was arrested while wearing a shirt glorifying Nazism, and was not on speaking terms with the neighbors in his village because he abused and killed people's pets.

The police found a machine gun, bombs, and 300 bullets when they searched Uros B.'s house.
