"We will get Serbia to the rivers": Vesic meets with head of the Danube Commission
Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesic met today with Director General of the Danube Commission Manfred Seitz.
Vesic said that "the Republic of Serbia is proud of its membership in the Danube Commission, which is one of the oldest international organizations."
"International and interstate rivers will be a special focus of our work, because Serbia did not make enough use of its rivers, which was a big mistake," said Vesic and added that while he was part of the government in the City of Belgrade, he implemented President Vucic's plan to "take" Belgrade down to its rivers, and now is the time for Serbia as a whole to turn to its rivers as well.
Vesic informed Seitz about the ongoing reconstruction of the two Serbian ports on the Danube, Bogojevo and Prahovo, about the intention to build a new Belgrade port, about the "Let's Sail though Serbia" project, as well as the intention to build two wastewater treatment plants in Veliko Selo and Batajnica, which would reduce the amount of sewage flowing directly from Belgrade into the Danube by about 90 percent.
"Rivers will be one of the priorities of my work as long as I hold this position," said Minister Vesic.
Secretary General of the Danube Commission Manfred Seitz thanked Minister Vesic because Serbia is paying more attention to rivers.
"Serbia is a proud member of our Commission and we see your country as one of the key Danube countries," said Seitz.
The meeting was attended by Predrag Petrovic, assistant minister for water transport, as well as the representative of Serbia in the Danube Commission, Dejan Trifunovic, and Ivana Kunc, the first counselor at the Serbian embassy in Budapest.
