European Parliament canceled visas for so-called Kosovo
Members of the European Parliament voted today at the plenary session on visa liberalization with so-called Kosovo. That was the last step towards the abolition of visas for citizens who have passports of so-called Kosovo.
Citizens with passports issued by the provisional authorities in Pristina will be allowed to travel and stay in the European Union for up to 90 days in any period of six months, writes Politika.
There is still the official signing, which has already been announced on the website of the European Parliament. As stated in the text, the decision on visa liberalization will be signed by the president of the European Parliament and the representative of Sweden as the presiding country.
The decision should enter into force when the ETIAS - European Travel Information and Authorization System approves it, but certainly not later than January 1, 2024.
Almost ten years ago, the European Commission gave a recommendation to other EU bodies to introduce visa liberalization for so-called Kosovo. From that moment on, the European Parliament has supported it.
However, the deadlock occurred at the level of member-countries. It was speculated whether these were the countries that do not recognize so-called Kosovo as independent, and the Netherlands and France were also mentioned for other reasons.
However, all obstacles were removed in November of this year, when the text of the agreement on visa liberalization was agreed upon and the green light was given by all EU members.
