Sale of electronic cigarettes to minors to be banned in Serbia
With the new amendments to the Law on Consumer Protection, which the Ministry of Internal and Foreign Trade is currently working on, minors will no longer be allowed to buy electronic cigarettes.
As stated on the website of the Ministry, the changes will be in the part that refers to the ban on the sale of these products to people under 18 years of age, and the ban will also apply to other products with or without nicotine.
Serbia has started a serious fight against tobacco smoke. This is just the continuation of a series of decisions and plans to definitively banish tobacco smoke from public spaces.
Electronic cigarettes are talked about as a slightly healthier option for smokers, but with these changes in the law, minors should be protected even from this kind of cigarette consumption.
The announcement by the Minister of Health, Danica Grujicic, that smoking will be prohibited by the new bill has upset some fellow citizens, and smokers were further angered by the fact that if this law comes into force, tobacco smoke will also be prohibited at bus stops, children's playgrounds and sporting events.
Grujicic previously said that the smoking ban also applies to electronic cigarettes.
Restaurateurs were the first to speak out against this proposal, stating that the key reasons for this is the large loss of income during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the fact that smokers make up about 70 percent of night club visitors.
