This April 4 dawned somewhat differently than we expected. Although some were doubtful this would happen, despite the weather forecasts, it started snowing during the night, bringing the snow cover to a depth of 20 centimeters.

And while the biggest problem for most citizens today is getting to work, on the other hand, farming households are facing potentially destroyed crops.

As Telegraf Biznis already reported, fruit trees that have already blossomed, such as peaches and apricots, are in direct danger.

"Throughout Serbia, snow will be falling during the rest of the day, but also on Wednesday. The good news is that its intensity will gradually weaken, while completely dry weather is expected on Thursday. Unfortunately, the snow is very wet and heavy and as such could damage agricultural crops. Very low temperatures are an additional danger. They are around 0 degrees Celsius today and that's 15 degrees lower than the average for this time of year," says Djordje Djuric, a meteorologist and journalist with the Telegraf.rs portal.

A visitor of our portal sent us photos of an orchard near Belgrade that is completely covered in snow.

As our meteorologist explains, frost is expected throughout Serbia on Thursday, so an adequate measure of protection will be necessary.

The problem with heavy snow is that it can break young branches. As for vegetables, potatoes are particularly at risk. Snow itself doesn't necessarily disturb plants, but cold weather does.

We remind you that in 2020, the March frost completely decimated crops throughout the country.
