TSC footballers are heroes! They risked their lives to prevent disaster after pile-up near Subotica

A terrible pile-up which took place on Tuesday near Subotica, involving 14 vehicles and resulting in 11 injured people, could have been even worse if it wasn't for the TSC club footballers, who showed great courage and a big heart.

The accident occurred due to strong wind, which created a sandstorm because it carried particles of dust and soil from the surrounding area, so visibility was minimal. Luckily, there were no serious injuries, and credit for that goes also to the five TSC football players, who happened to be there and were stopping the traffic, to prevent more cars from crashing into each other, and more injuries.

"We were returning from a training session when, near Subotica, because of strong wind, a cloud of dust from the fields next to the road rose up, which was so dense that even though we slowed down, we almost crashed too. Through that cloud of dust, we tried to make our way to the other side of the road when a the truck drove into one of the cars in the middle of the road.

"At that point, in order to get out of the way, we went along a canal and made our way to the other side of the road, to where visibility was good, from where we noticed that other cars were approaching and that they were not aware there was a pile-up in front of them. We ran out of the car and started stopping them, after which we called the ambulance, the fire brigade and the police. We returned to the scene of the accident and asked people if they were okay and told them the ambulance would arrive soon," TSC captain Goran Antonic told Mozzart Sport.

The situation was also described by Ifet Djakovac, who wished all the injured a speedy recovery.

"As we were returning from training we encountered a sandstorm, so we slowed down and stopped by the side of the road. We saw a pile-up and as soon as we got out of that storm, we got out of the car to stop the oncoming vehicles, because nothing could be seen and the drivers could not even guess what was in front of them. There were five of us: Antonic, Calusic, Filipovic, Mircevski and me. I hope that we have at least mitigated the disaster a little. I wish a speedy recovery to everyone who was injured," said the attacking midfielder Djakovac.
