Kentkart to complain over contract termination: They want to continue collecting fares in Belgrade transport
After the refusal of Kentkart, as a private partner, to accept the proposal to mutually terminate the contract on public-private partnership for collection of fares in public transport, this foreign investor, based on a bilateral international agreement, sent a notification to the state authorities about the intention to initiate a dispute against the Republic of Serbia, as a guarantor of protection of foreign investments.
"By rejecting the proposed agreement on termination of the contract 11 years before its expiration, through no fault of the private partner and without compensation of damages, which is the legal consequence of such a termination, the private partner refused to participate in creating the appearance of the termination of the partnership," the company has announced.
On February 21, the Belgrade City Assembly agreed with the final draft of a mutual termination of the contract on public-private partnership between the Secretariat for Public Transport and the Kentkart consortium. That contract referred to the partnership in performing the activities of exploitation and maintenance of the ticket collection system, as well as the management of vehicles in public passenger transportation in Belgrade.
The City of Belgrade has founded the Public Utility Company "Billing Transportation Services Belgrade" and this job will be entrusted to it, as the City of Belgrade's activity in general interest.
