The suspects will spend up to 48 hours in police detention
Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), Criminal Police Directorate, in cooperation with the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Sremska Mitrovica, seized about 220 kilograms of marijuana and arrested five people on suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs.
Turkish citizens O.S. and B.A., as well as A.M., I.J. and K.A. - all three arriving from the area of Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija - were arrested, while one person is being intensively searched for.
Police officers found the suspects on the highway, at a stop near Simanovci, during the handover of drugs, which, it is suspected, were to be transported to Turkey.
211 packages of marijuana were found in one of the three trucks they used.
It is suspected that O.S. organized the transport of drugs for the purpose of resale and obtaining illegal financial gains.
The suspects will spend up to 48 hours in police custody and will then be brought before the competent prosecutor's office along with a criminal complaint.
