Two children aged one and three died this morning in a fire that broke out around 8:20 am in a house in Stara Moravica near Backa Topola, and on Sunday, two days earlier, in Novi Pazar, four children aged between six months and five years lost their lives in a fire in an apartment.

The fire in Stara Moravica affected three rooms and a house, and was contained at 8:40 am.

An autopsy was ordered for the children who lost their lives.

The first tragedy in which four children perished happened around 7 am in Novi Pazar when a fire broke out in an apartment. A six-month-old baby, three-year-old twins and a five-year-old child lost their lives.

The father and the mother received burns on their bodies. The mother was kept in the hospital in Novi Pazar and is in a relatively good general condition. She has first and second degree burns, with the percentage of the affected skin surface is up to 18 percent.

The father was transferred to the Clinical Center of Serbia to a specialist hospital because his burns cover 50 percent of his body. He also inhaled carbon monoxide, so the doctors had to intubate him and his life is in danger.

The father received a large portion of the burns during his attempts to reach the children, in order to save them. Some of the eyewitnesses of the event said that they saw a man on fire standing on a terrace, and that he was calling for help. He also tried to open the terrace door to reach his children, but failed and, as the fire engulfed him, had to jump from the terrace.

The police found four children aged six months to five years in one room and they were urgently transported to the nearest hospital. According to the doctors, one child was still alive upon admission, but despite their efforts, he soon died. That child had burns on his face and hands and doctors tried to resuscitate him.

"Four of my nephews died in a fire in Serbia, and my brother and his wife are in a serious condition. Please pray for them, for the patience and health of my brother and his wife. My brother's condition is serious and he needs blood transfusions and skin transplants. We are looking for donors in Belgrade. You can contact us on WhatsApp phone numbers +20114571888 and +966530969151," the brother of the children's father wrote on Facebook, and there are several other similar appeals on that social network.
