Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has congratulated the Chinese people on the start of the New Year.

"I from the heart congratulate our Chinese friends on the Year of the Rabbit, wishing them to welcome it in joy and good health. I wish that, among your family and in a festive mood, you begin to realize even your most daring dreams. Happy New Year," Vucic wrote on the Twitter account of the president of Serbia.

The start of the Chinese New Year was celebrated on January 22, the first day of the new moon at the beginning of the year, according to the Chinese calendar.

The celebration lasts for 15 days and ends with the release of red paper lanterns into the air.
