Novak reveals to journalists why his parents had not been in Australia for 15 years
After his victory over Roberto Carballes Baena, Novak Djokovic had an emotional message for his parents in the stands yesterday, telling them that he loves them and that he is glad that they are there again after 15 years.
The last time Srdjan and Dijana Djokovic were in Rod Laver Arena was in 2008, when Novak won the first Grand Slam title of his career, defeating Jo Wilfried Tsonga in the final.
At a press conference after the match yesterday, Djokovic was asked why his parents had not been in Australia for so long.
"It's not exactly around the corner. They have been coming to Paris, to Wimbledon, it's especially difficult for them to get to Australia. We have some great memories, we talked about how we spent our time 15 years ago. If I stay on the path, maybe we will celebrate again," said Novak, who also spoke about the condition of his leg during the conference, which he said was not ideal, and he also for the first time touched on the reasons he parted ways with Ulises Badia.
