Brian Walshe has been charged with murdering his wife Ana, a Belgrade woman who has been missing since January 1. This has been reported by US and Serbian media, and Ana's mother Milanka Ljubicic reacted when contacted by Telegraf.rs by at first not being able to speak and then barely uttering, "I cannot believe that."

After a short silence when we told her that Brian was accused, Milanka said that she couldn't believe this, just as she couldn't believe all the news that had come out so far about her son-in-law.

"I can't believe that," Milanka said and then continued:

"I can't believe it just like I can't believe everything that is being written. I told you today. I have hope that my child is alive."

Milanka told Telegraf.rs earlier in the day that she is not receiving any official information, except for what she sees in our media. Although 17 days have passed since Ana's disappearance, and she has not heard from her daughter for more than 20, shesaid she believed that she was alive.

"It's terrible to live not knowing. The older daughter doesn't know anything either. I don't even know anything about the grandchildren. It's only important for me to find out that she is alive, that is my most important goal and I am not interested in anything else. I'm not going to talk about what I'm reading and listening to. I believe she is still alive. And, the only thing that matters to me is that my child is alive and I'm not interested in anything else," Milanka tells Telegraf.rs.

Brian is scheduled to appear in court in Queens on Wednesday on charges of murdering his wife, Ana.

During questioning last week, Brian denied any involvement in his wife Ana's disappearance.
