The MUP warned today that due to organized celebrations of the Serbian New Year Eve (January 13) and the end of school holidays for high school students, a significant increase in the frequency of traffic on all the most important roads in our country is expected during the coming weekend, reports Tanjug.

It is stated that members of the Traffic Police, in order to secure the most favorable traffic safety situation during the holidays, are implementing measures of increased control, and their activities are primarily aimed at detecting and sanctioning violations that directly threaten traffic safety.

"In just 10 days, 25,000 traffic violations have been detected, 1,722 drivers who drove under the influence of alcohol and 88 drivers who drove under the influence of psychoactive substances have been excluded from traffic," the MUP statement specified.

The Ministry appealed on all participants in traffic to respect traffic rules and to contribute to traffic safety during the holidays by behaving responsibly, and especially appealed on drivers not to drive under the influence of alcohol and psychoactive substances during celebrations.

The Ministry of Interior draws the attention of drivers to the announced bad weather conditions, saying they should adjust the speed of their vehicles to the road and atmospheric conditions and that they must use the required winter equipment.
