4-year-old dies after swallowing acorn decoration displayed on kindergarten New Year tree

Inspectors from the Ministry of Education will immediately go to Vladicin Han, where a 4-year-old boy swallowed an acorn in the kindergarten, after which he died, Telegraf.rs has learned.

As we have unofficially learned, the acorn was displayed on a New Year tree.

After swallowing the object the boy was first transferred by ambulance to the Surdulica healthcare center, and from there to the Clinical Center (UKC) in Nis.

Despite the efforts of the doctors to save him, and despite the acorn getting removed, the child passed away last night.

"The boy was admitted in the afternoon in a very serious general condition with signs of severe impairment of the brain function. The object was removed from his respiratory tract at the UKC, but unfortunately this did not change the patient's condition. Despite all the measures taken by several medical teams, the fatal outcome occured last night," the clinic announced.

An autopsy has been ordered.

Other details regarding this event are still being determined. For now, it is not known how the child came to swallow the object on Monday morning.

Also, the authorities from the pre-school institution "Pcelica," within which the kindergarten operates, were yet to make any statement as of Wednesday morning.
