Former footballer and coach Sinisa Mihajlovic passes away
Legendary Serbian football player and coach Sinisa Mihajlovic failed to win the most important battle of his life. After his health deteriorated sharply in the last few days, he died today surrounded by his family, according to Italian media.
The tragic news was confirmed by media and other sources. Mihajlovic has been fighting leukemia for a long time, since 2019, and managed to beat it and return to the touchline, but unfortunately the illness came back and dealt a strong, painful blow.
Messages of support, wishing him recovery were coming from different quarters, from his former clubs, teammates, family members... To their great sadness, Sinisa did not manage to overcome it.
The man who dominated in the Italian league for almost 15 years has left us. After starting his career in Borovo, he quickly moved to Vojvodina, a club he scored 19 goals for in 73 games.
This was followed by a transfer to Red Star, from where his good performances allowed him to join AS Roma, where he played from 1992 to 1994. He then spent four years at Sampdoria, and another six at SS Lazio, where he made 126 appearances and scored 20 goals. He ended his playing career at Inter in 2006.
Mihajlovic immediately continued to work in the same club as an assistant coach, and after that he joined Bologna for the first time, where he stayed for one season. Among others, he coached Catania, Fiorentina, the national team of Serbia, Sampdoria, Milan, Torino, Sporting, and from 2019 until earlier this year, he was once again at Bologna.
The date and place of Sinisa Mihajlovic's funeral will be announced later.
