Serbian Assembly President Vladimir Orlic thanks Armenia for support and for not recognizing so-called Kosovo
President of the Serbian National Assembly Vladimir Orlic spoke today with Prague-based Ambassador of Armenia to Serbia on non-residential basis Ashot Hovakimian. As announced by the Assembly, Orlic thanked Armenia for its principled support and for not recognizing so-called "Kosovo" - which is currently not recognized by more than 100 UN member-states.
"While he was attending the UN General Assembly, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic received another (diplomatic) note about a withdrawal of recognition (of Kosovo). Most of countries in the world are on Serbia's side," said the president of the Serbian Assembly, and informed the interlocutor about the difficult situation in Kosovo and Metohija.
Orlic told the ambassador that Albin Kurti and Pristina are trying to completely destroy any dialogue and that their only goal is to ethnically cleanse Kosovo and Metohija of Serbs.
He said that Pristina is sending units armed with rifles, who have their finger on the trigger to the north of Kosovo and Metohija, and that people there are being terrorized only because they are Serbs. It is this situation that has led to the setting up of barricades.
"They set up the barricades because they want to preserve peace, end the terror and for agreements to be respected. They (Serbs) said that they respect KFOR and EULEX missions and they are asking to be protected from Kurti's criminals. These people are protesting without resorting to violence and asking for the ZSO (Community of Serb Municipalities) to be formed after ten years of lies, and for all Serbs held in custody to be released immediately," said Orlic.
The Assembly president added that under such conditions, Belgrade continues to insist on peace, the end of persecution and the return of (Serbian) military and police personnel to Kosovo, which, according to the valid UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Belgrade has the right to do.
Ambassador Hovakimian confirmed that Armenia remains consistent in its position of not recognizing so-called "Kosovo."
During the meeting, it was agreed to continue activities with the aim of further improving parliamentary cooperation and strengthening contacts between parliamentary friendship groups.
Orlic expressed particular satisfaction over the participation of the Armenian delegation at the 60th General Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, which was held last week in Belgrade, as well as because of cooperation achieved in other international parliamentary organizations.
