Defense Minister Vucevic on Kosovo : "It's enough to light a match for things to go in unwanted direction"
"The atmosphere in Kosovo and Metohija is so inflammable that it is enough to light a match and everything will go in an unwanted direction, although it is currently calm in the sense that no incidents are happening," Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vucevic said on Wednesday on TV Prva, as reported by nsuzivo.rs.
"Throughout his time in office, Albin Kurti has been making a series of unilateral moves aimed at destabilizing and disrespecting and putting all these agreements out of context. This is also a clear message to the Serbs that they are not welcome there and that should not be sugarcoated. That is Kurti's policy, to completely ethnically cleanse Kosovo. We are talking about these four municipalities that are compact and lean on central Serbia. It is a difficult situation and it is easy for us from Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Subotica to say what needs to be done but people need to live there every day. It is not easy to explain to the Serb community in the north that they should not fall for provocations.
The ultimate goal of the Albanians is to disturb, frighten and expel the Serbs. Yesterday they had some story that they were occupying the municipal election commissions, supposedly finding some explosive things. We saw some people being thrown out, and they are administrative workers, not some military force. The goal is to intimidate people into leaving Kosovo. People are on edge, this persecution and making the context of any dialogue meaningless has been going on for a long time. Then we usually hear from the international community a call for restraint by both sides, for dialogue, so that there is no escalation."
It is possible international community will postpone elections
When it comes to elections on December 18, Vucevic reminded that President Vucic said that he expected some move and provocation by Pristina, and that literally 24 hours afterwards, it happened.
"We had an attempt to demonstrate they are supposedly some state. And in fact, under the guise of a state, they carry out state terror and lawlessness. There will certainly be pressure ahead of those elections, but we will see how their patrons in the international community will react and whether they will convince them to perhaps postpone the December 18 elections, because as things stand now, the Serb List will not participate. I cannot rule out whether they will find three people who are Serbs by name, like they found these unfortunates like Rasic and Trajkovic, that I cannot rule out."
Both Left and Right are hypocritical - one seeks independent Kosovo, other wants others' children to go to war
If the Serbs south of the Ibar leave Pristina's institutions, the situation would become even more complicated, Minister Vucevic is convinced.
"If the Serbs left the police force, it would be an additional drama. The Kosovo knot is still at the epicenter and it will not be resolved for a long time. There is political hypocrisy on the part of extreme left and extreme right political parties. Some expect Vucic to admit that Kosovo is an independent state, something they have long since cheered on.
So they could say that they were right all along, that he lied to the people and in the end had to admit it, while these right-wingers from warm cafes or apartments tell us that we should be already in Prizren with other people's children in uniforms and tanks, and they will explain to us in parliament how one should be a firm and determined fighter for Serb causes, and of course they do not see themselves on the front line," says the minister.
