In addition to flooding land and several houses, the Lim River in Prijepolje has reated new problems for the locals. High waters caused damage to the bridge in Sarampovo, the reconstruction of which was completed a few months ago.

There are large cracks on the piers that support the structure, so the question is whether they can withstand the force of the swollen Lim River.

The president of the municipality sees the problem in the way the works were done, because the pier footings were not reinforced, and explains the cause.

"The damage most likely occurred because the problematic footings were not reinforced. Those newly built fortifications around the piers are a new element in construction methods here. They took up about three to four meters around a pier, and if we take into account that we have three such supporting piers, our watercourse is narrowed by 12 meters, which should not have been done in a part where the Lim has a huge flow of water," said Vladimir Babic, president of municipality of Prijepolje.

However, this is not the only problem, because the new bridge in Sarampovo also got damage in the pedestrian section after an as yet unknown perpetrator crashed into the fence and caused a traffic accident, after which they fled the scene.

A state of emergency is still in force in Prijepolje, and as soon as weather conditions are favorable, the contractors will start repairing the damage caused to the new bridge in Sarampovo.
