Milos Medenica, a former Red Star handball player and the director of an addiction treatment clinic in Belgrade, who was arrested at the Nikola Tesla airport in Belgrade when eight grams of heroin were found in his underwear, was questioned at the Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Office.

As we have learned, he now has two criminal complaints filed against him. One for possession of narcotics, and the other for assaulting an official while resisting arrest.

He said he was carrying the drugs for personal use.

After the questioning, he was released, and if found guilty of the crimes he is charged with he faces up to 3 years in prison.

Medenica tried to bring eight grams of heroin on board a plane 10 days ago. He also tried to resist arrest, so in addition to illegal possession of intoxicating substances, he will also be held responsible for assaulting competent authorities.

After the questioning, he was released, and the investigation was conducted by the Third Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade.

"He acted nervous"

The police officers at the airport became suspicious of Medenica's behavior while he was standing in the check-out line. He was tapping his foot nervously, often leaving the line and coming back, and when he was asked to show his documents, Medenica started shouting and asking for an explanation as to why the police were asking for his passport.

The patrol then asked him to come with them to the official premises, but Medenica, now in a state of panic, started calling someone on the phone. The police officers tried to take his phone away, but he started pushing them and running away. Because he is large and strong, he was subdued only after a special unit that secures the airport intervened.

The arrest

Otherwise, Medenica was last in the public eye in 2014 when he tested positive for doping after a handball game. The Anti-Doping Agency of Serbia announced that he had tested positive for carboxy THC and sibutramine, which is a stimulant found in supplements and in green tea.

The Handball Federation of Serbia then, in the first-instance decision, suspended Medenica pending the end of the proceedings. He was previously held in custody on several occasions, the last time in August.
