Aleksandar Antic: Ruma-Sabac highway will be opened next year. No infrastructure project has been stopped
"The highway from Ruma to Sabac, including the bridge over the Sava River, will be opened in September of next year," the acting director of the public company Koridori Srbije ("Corridors of Serbia"), Aleksandar Antic, said today.
Appearing on a local TV station, he recalled that at the end of July the two sides of a new bridge got connected over the Sava River near Sabac, as part of the Ruma-Sabac highway construction, and the Sabac-Loznica expressway.
"That bridge has so far been done up to some 96 percent. At the moment, our priority is to finish the route of the highway from Ruma to Sabac in order to have that unit and open it together with the bridge, and the deadline for that is September 2023," said Antic.
He added that intensive work is being done on that section of the highway and that the paving of the road surface has already started.
"When it comes to the expressway from Sabac to Loznica, at the moment, first of all, we are working in the territory of Loznica, on some 18 kilometers, and we are expecting the start of work in the territory of Sabac soon," said Antic.
Concerning the works on the Fruska Gora Corridor, he said that there are two key facilities: Iriski Venac, a tunnel through Mt. Fruska Gora that will be about 3,550 meters long, and a bridge over the Danube, which will connect the "shorter" side with Petrovaradin.
When it comes to the tunnel, he said that on both sides - at the entrance and exit portals - all the slants have been secured, the entrance portal has been prepared and drilling of the right tunnel pipe has begun.
The acting director of Koridori Srbije also touched on the subject of the Morava Corridor to state that it is a very important project that connects corridors 10 and 11.
"Out of the 112 kilometers of the future highway, works are currently progressing on about 90 kilometers. The most intensive works are being done on the section from Pojate to Krusevac," said Antic.
He further stressed that not a single infrastructure project has been stopped, and that they are all "in full swing."
