Brnabic condemns statement made by Ponos, who said the drone incidents in Raska are "a show for the public"
Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic has condemned the statements made by Zdravko Ponos, the former chief of the General Staff, now a politician, who said the events in Raska are "a show for the public."
"He should keep quiet and contemplate his political and military destiny. Serbia is facing serious challenges, times are hard, but what is certain is that neither President Aleksandar Vucic, nor the Serbian Army, nor the Government of the Republic of Serbia will react the way Ponos and his ilk did when the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija were attacked, killed, expelled, when Serbian churches were set on fire and they (Pristina) proclaimed independence. We will not hand over Serbia and our people, and at the same time we will continue to do our best to preserve peace," Brnabic, who is in Berlin, told Tanjug.
She added that making things seem relative in this way is particularly scandalous considering that this is a man who was once the chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Army.
"Zdravko Ponos, unfortunately, really does not understand all the ways the security of the Republic of Serbia is threatened. That's why we were so strong and so safe when he was at the helm of the Serbian Army. He saw a drone only at a wedding, and a UAV only on Google," said the prime minister.
"So, it shouldn't surprise us that something like this is coming from a man who is remembered as one of the worst chiefs of the General Staff who, due to unfortunate circumstances, got to do that job. He will also be remembered as a man who did absolutely nothing good for the Serbian Army," said Brnabic.
This is a man, she continued, who then and now openly advocates for Serbia to join NATO - the same NATO that carried out aggression against our country in 1999.
"In elections, the citizens of Serbia said everything they think about Zdravko Ponos and I am sure that individuals like him will never be in a position to lead Serbia or decide on its security," concluded Brnabic.
