Wizz Air leaving neighboring country's capital
The low-cost carrier will cancel almost all of its routes to and from the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina and relocate its two planes stationed in the city.
"The main challenges we faced in Sarajevo are the rising fuel prices and high levels of inflation that have affected the demand for air transport in the country," according to Wizz Air.
The carrier will only maintain services from Abu Dhabi and London to Sarajevo, which will be operated by its branches in the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.
The airline will instead focus on developing a base in Tuzla, but will maintain two aircraft in the city for the time being.
It is expected that the departure of Wizz Air from Sarajevo will affect the performance of the airport - the company accounted for about 35% of all passengers, or about 400,000 people in total.
About 30 workers from Sarajevo received offers to move to other bases.
