Scientists from a Turkish university have developed a project for the transport of up to 75 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which envisages the construction of a pipeline to distribute natural gas to Europe via Thrace with three branches: northern, southern and central, which would also go to Serbia.

The Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak writes that scientists from the Faculty of Engineering at Gumushane University prepared a master's thesis three months before the statement made by Russian President Vladimir Putin about the possible establishment of a gas hub for supplying Europe, reports Armenia News.

According to the head of the Department of Geophysical Engineering, Nafiz Maden, the pipeline project is based on scientific research.

Maden said the plan is to distribute natural gas to Europe via Thrace in three branches: northern, southern and central.

The scientist added that the northern branch will go to Romania, Slovenia, Hungary and then to Germany, the southern to Italy, and the middle to Serbia and other countries via Bulgaria, Albania, so-called Kosovo, North Macedonia, etc.

Maden also said that during the development of the project, it was assumed that the hub would increase from 50 to 75 billion cubic meters thanks to additional investments.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that an international gas hub in will be built in his country as soon as possible.

Reuters reported last week that after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin Erdogan ordered the Energy Ministry to begin the construction of a gas hub in Turkey.

Erdogan added that both countries will immediately start working on Putin's proposal to transport Russian gas to Europe and that there will be no delays.
