Doctor Snezana reveals when the flue epidemic peak is expected in Serbia: Another threat in addition to Covid
During this time of the year many people complain of flu-like symptoms, while stomach and respiratory viruses bring both children and adults to the doctor. Immunization against the flu has been going on for two weeks and about 80,000 doses have been administered so far. A total of 400,000 tetravalent vaccines and 30,000 doses of the Torlak-produced trivalent vaccines have been provided.
"So far, we have given around 1,200 doses, which is a quarter of what is currently available. In the coming period we expect increased interest, because this is the time of the year when most people get vaccinated against the flu," Dr. Snezana Kalabic from the Savski Venac Healthcare Center told RTS about vaccination in that health institution.
The recommendation is that everyone over the age of 65 should get vaccinated, as well as chronic patients, above all those with cardiovascular, renal, malignant, pulmonary diseases - especially asthmatics and people with diabetes.
"One should get vaccinated when the virus is not yet in circulation. The right time is right now, because the peak is expected from the end of December to the end of February," stressed Dr. Kalabic.
When it comes to other problems citizens report to healthcare centers with, Dr. Kalabic says that these are most often respiratory and stomach viruses.
Citizens presenting with respiratory illness symptoms still get examined in Covid clinics, in order to separate them from other patients, and on average, about 150 examinations are performed daily (per clinic).
