Photos, videos from the scene of accident near Jovanje Monastery: 2 dead, others being rescued from the river
Police and firefighters are pulling people who fell into the Zapadna Morava River while crossing a bridge out of the water. Two women died in the accident.
Dramatic scenes this morning near the Jovanje Monastery in the Ovcar-Kablar Gorge, after a small suspension bridge collapsed while people heading towards the monastery were crossing it.
As many as 20 people fell into the swollen river, and a rescue operation is underway.
Telegraf.rs previously learned that one person got tangled up in the collapsed bridge and drowned. 12 people were injured, 11 of whom are treated in the hospital in Cacak.
According to unofficial information obtained earlier in the day, two were in a serious condition.
We have unofficially learned that the visitors came from the Serb Republic (RS). A group of about 120 people, including two priests, was on its way to the monastery.
Members of the Serbian MUP's Sector for Emergency Situations and police officers from Cacak are at the scene.
The tragedy happened this morning at 10 o'clock.
