The most beautiful rock bridges in Serbia: Magnificent monuments carved by the hand of nature
Valja Prerast, a natural bridge that is a true nature's masterpiece, is located in eastern part of Serbia, near Rudna Glava, 10 kilometers from Majdanpek.
This rock arch, which is in fact the largest natural bridge in Serbia, has an impressive height of 44.8 meters, while it is less that 10 meters wide in the lower part. It is thought to be between 130 and 150 million years old.
Valja Prerast is also known by many as "Suplja Stena" ("Hollow Rock"). This natural bridge was declared a geomorphological monument of nature in 1959.
A far smaller rock arch, but no less attractive, is also located in the eastern part of Serbia, near the village of Osanica. Kasonje is one to three meters tall, while the rocks that form this natural bridge are five meters wide.
Near the Vratna monastery, close to Negotin are Vratnjanske Kapije ("Vratna Gates") - Velika, Mala and Suva Prerast (Large, Small, and Dry Rock Arch). Velika Preprast is 26 meters tall, Mala Prerast is taller - 34 meters, while Suva Prerast is 20 meters tall and was created as a result of the sinking of the Vratna River.
Although they represent natural phenomena, attractive rock arches are not so popular among tourists. They are mostly visited by mountaineers and explorers who do not hesitate to walk for hours to admire nature's masterpieces.
