Kosovo Specialist Chambers extends detention of Kadri Veseli
The Specialist Chambers in The Hague have extended the detention of the former president of the Assembly of Kosovo, Kadri Veseli, the Chambers announced.
In the explanation of the decision, the Specialist Chambers mentioned that he is a flight risk, could influence witnesses and destroy evidence, reports kosovo-online.com.
At the end of April, the Specialist Prosecutor expanded the indictment against Veseli and three other accused leaders of the former KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army"), Hashim Thaci, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, accusing them of having also committed war crimes in Gnjilane, Budakovo and Semetiste.
The indictment against these four was confirmed on October 26, 2020, and according to it, they are accused of having had the common goal with other members of the joint criminal enterprise to secure and exercise control over the whole of Kosovo by using intimidation, harassment, violence and elimination of those they considered to be political opponents.
Veseli's defense requested several times this year that he be released during the trial, but the Specialist Chambers (special court for KLA) rejected all those requests.
