The village of Plandiste, located in the South Banat District, changed its name several times during its long history. The municipality, which bears the same name as the village is on the tourism map of Serbia for its castles but also for cultural, gastronomic and sports events.

During the Middle Ages, Plandiste was called Bioseg, after the meadow where it was founded.

With the arrival of Prince Eugene, the name of the village was changed to Morminz.

When Count Carl Zichy de Vasonkeo became the owner of Morminz, the village was renamed to Zichydorf, that is, "Zychy's village."

Another name change followed, so Zichydorf became Zichyfalva, and after the First World War – Mariolana. This name was chosen as a sign of gratitude to Queen Maria, the wife of King Aleksandar Karadjordjevic.

Namely, the former Romanian princess liked to go hunting in the vicinity of Plandiste with her husband and entourage, and that is why Zichyfalva became Mariolana.

After the Second World War, the village received the name Plandiste, and continues to use it to this day.
