"Venice of Srem" 100 kilometers from Belgrade: Morovic is a paradise for fishers and nature lovers
Morovic is located about a hundred kilometers from Belgrade, at the confluence of the Studva and Bosut rivers. It is one of the oldest settlements in the Srem region and one of the places in Serbia that fishers like to visit.
It most likely got its name from the feudal Morovic family, although there are two more assumptions about the origin of the name.
According to one of these the settlement was first called Marot, while the other says that the original name was Morouig.
Thanks to the Bosut, which is referred as being "full of fish," Morovic is a favorite meeting place of fishers.
Because of the abundance of water and bridges, it is also called "the Venice of Srem."
Lovers of long walks can also find their "piece of paradise" here, especially if they go to the hunting ground, located in the oldest oak forest in this region.
