The arrest of the Zemun killer: He called dwelling's owner, said his wife passed out; then fell into a trap
Seljamet D. (34), who was arrested in Zemun on suspicion of killing his wife S.S. (27) by first tying her nose and mouth, and then beating her with a wooden object until he crushed her skull, tried to get away with the crime, we have unofficially learned.
It is suspected that on September 18, around 9:30 pm, he called the son of the owner of the house where they lived, saying that his wife had fainted and that they should go and check on her. In the house, they found a woman on the floor with a scarf tied over her mouth, while the defendant and the two children he has with the victim were not in the house.
After that, they called the emergency services and the police, and a little later they also called Seljamet and told him that his wife was fine, after which he soon returned home, where he was arrested.
He was questioned today at the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade and decided not to speak, using his legal right not to present a defense.
After the hearing, the prosecution proposed to the judge for preliminary proceedings of the Higher Court in Belgrade to place the suspect in custody so that he would not influence witnesses and in order not to repeat a crime in a short period of time. The suspect has been charged with committing murder.
