Vucic is in New York: Here is when president of Serbia will speak at the United Nations headquarters
Preparations are under way at the UN headquarters on New York City for the UN General Assembly debate of world leaders, and a large canvas has been painted on one building warning that the world is at a turning point when it comes to climate change.
Although the 77th session of the UN General Assembly officially opened on September 13, the UN building in Manhattan will be busy with delegations from all over the world from September 20 to 26.
President Aleksandar Vucic will speak on Wednesday, September 21, most likely in the afternoon.
In addition to law enforcement officials, UN officials and members of delegations, some media crews can also be seen. The flags of the member states have not yet been displayed in front of the headquarters of the world organization on First Avenue.
Unlike last year when there were strict Covid measures, currently media representatives and members of delegations can enter without face masks. There were tents for rapid Covid testing last year in front of the UN headquarters, which is not yet the case now.
Although there are still no crowds, which are usual for the start of the debate that traditionally gets opened by the US and Brazilian presidents, there has been more police around the UN building.
Last year's UN General Debate was held in a hybrid format, as delegations could choose whether their representatives would speak in person at UN headquarters or send a video message.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabic addressed the audience in person, and the delegation included Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic. This year, a large number of delegations are expected at the general debate, while during the previous, around 70 heads of state and 30 heads of government were physically present.
