Kapetan Misin Breg offers most beautiful view of the Danube: An ideal weekend destination
Late summer days are best spent at the sea or in locations throughout Serbia that we don't have time to visit during the year. One of them is Kapetan Misin Breg, which is only 6 kilometers away from Donji Milanovac, from where you can enjoy the most beautiful view of the Danube.
The place, which translates to "Captain Misa's Hill," was named after great Serbian benefactor Misa Anastasijevic, who was born not far from this place.
Located in the heart of the Djerdap (Iron Gates) Gorge, considered by many to be the most beautiful gorge in Europe, this ethno-complex is recognizable by its open-air gallery. The sculptures are made of wood and stone, and the gallery is symbolically named, "Man, Wood, Water."
On a spacious plot, at an elevation that offers a fantastic view of the Danube, there is also a farm house, a wine museum, benches with tables and a small botanical garden full of carefully maintained flowers.
Coming to this part of Serbia and not trying local dishes would be a big mistake. In Kapetan Misin Breg guests can enjoy locally sourced foods prepared according to traditional recipes characteristic of this area.
For those who would like to experience something more than spend time on a hill from which the view of the Danube is on full display, there are other interesting locations nearby - the Golubac Fortress, Lepenski Vir, the Djerdap National Park, as well as Rajkova Pecina (cave) and Vratna Canyon.
