Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic will participate in the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will last from September 20 to 26 in New York City.

Novosti has learned that high-level delegations from almost all countries of the world will participate in the general debate, during which Vucic will speak, which will be an opportunity to discuss current events in the world during the regular session, almost certainly with an accent on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The gathering in New York will also be a chance to talk about the srtance that our country takes on Ukraine (we condemn attack on territorial integrity, but do not impose sanctions on Russia), but also about the Kosovo issue, especially at a time when there is increased pressure to intensify the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina. Vucic and Selakovic are expected to hold numerous meetings with representatives of the UN, as well as several countries during official talks, but also on the sidelines of the General Assembly.

It is still not known whether the Russian delegation, which should be led by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, will be present at the meetings in New York. Moscow recently expressed its concern in a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres because none of the 56 representatives of the Russian Federation received the US visa.

The US has imposed sanctions on Russia over its attack on Ukraine, including a travel ban. Moscow refers to the 1947 agreement between the US and the UN, which stipulates that Washington must not prevent the transit of representatives of member states to the UN headquarters.

A high-level meeting should be held with UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration on the Rights of Members of National or Ethnic Religious and Linguistic Minorities.
