Doctor shocks by saying, "homosexuality is a disease," Miletic retorts: What kind of doctor is he?
Doctor Borislav Antonijevic from the Association of Citizens, Doctors and Parents for Science and Ethics has made shocking claims while spekaing for a television station, when he declared that homosexuality is a disease that must be treated.
"Homosexuality was and remains a disease. And of course, it can be treated like any disease," Antonijevic was explicit.
After this statement, the director of Belgrade Pride, Marko Mihajlovic, spoke up and asked him "if he is being treated too."
"Is that how you get treated? You are abnormal," said Mihajlovic.
A stormy discussion followed on social networks as well. For this reason, Telegraf.rs contacted LGBT+ activist Goran Miletic, who believes that this statement is disputed both medically and legally.
"What kind of a doctor is he? This is not normal, if he were a doctor, he would know very well what is a disease and what is not, and if he does not know that, how can he treat people? That is not clear to me. That is the first thing, and the second is that it violates the Constitution and discriminates against minorities, and publicly through the media. Here we have the basis for the ombudsman (to react) and for a complaint, but about that later," Miletic told our portal.
Otherwise, Mihajlovic previously commented on the Serbian Government's decision to cancel EuroPride.
"Talks have been going on for months and I believe we will reach a solution. We were doing that with all institutions and the decision to ban was rather surprising because it is an unacceptable violation of our rights guaranteed by the Constitution. It just confirms what kind of things we are facing. My life will pass in listening that now is not the time, and I don't want my life to pass like that and it is a great shame for our country," Mihajlovic told the media.
Antonijevic, who is a medical doctor, was also not vague in his comments about the canceling of that event.
"The straw man argument is always used here. This is not just about freedom of expression and assembly. Now the program has been released where, as part of this manifestation (EuroPride), it says that schools, kindergartens, monasteries, institutions will be visited. We have three textbooks where homosexuality is being affirmed. They ask that children can decide to change their gender at the age of 13, 14. It's like letting a child drive a car," Antonijevic said.
