Open Balkan is expanding: Hungary is ready to join the initiative
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Peter Szijjarto said today at the summit of the countries of the Open Balkan initiative, held in Belgrade, that Hungary is ready to join the cooperation between the member countries of that regional initiative.
"Hungary is ready to join this narrow and close cooperation of the Open Balkan countries, when it comes to integrated energy markets, be it gas, electricity and energy trade. We are ready to also join tge close cooperation when it comes to ensuring food security, as well as when it comes to attracting investments to this region," said Szijjarto.
He said it might be an ambitious offer at this point.
"But, I think that by the time of the summit in Budapest, we would all be ready to do it then, if this is not too ambitious," said Szijjarto.
He stressed that Hungary strongly supports the Open Balkan initiative and that those countries have taken the necessary steps for EU integration, as well as that now is finally the moment for Brussels to act.
"We are arriving at an embarrassing point where Brussels is always two or three steps behind where we should be," added Szijjarto.
He stressed that, if it was up to Hungary, the Western Balkan would already be admitted to the EU.
"We are frustrated by what is currently happening regarding the enlargement policy in Brussels," said Szijjarto.
