Vucic: Starting September 1, they will try to change license plates; EuroPride won't happen

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic says that, regardless of the optimistic statements by some EU representatives, he currently does not see a solution regarding the license plates in Kosovo and Metohija.

He also said that the EuroPride event will not be held in Belgrade and that this decision is final.

Aleksandar Vucic said that Pristina will certainly continue its campaign starting on September 1 and try to force the Serbs to change the license plates on their vehicles.

Vucic thus responded when a journalist asked him to comment on EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell's optimistic statement that the issue of plates will be resolved just like the issue of personal documents.

"European politicians are much more intelligent and serious than me, and they don't have to be surly like me, and have an optimistic scenario in their heads. I don't see any solution at the moment and from September 1 they will go ahead with their campaign and try to force the Serbs to change their license plates. I don't think they will be very successful in that," said Vucic.

He added that Albin Kurti said in Brussels that he believes that it will be a great success if the Serbs replace their plates.

"It's a process that will continue, we will certainly be facing this problem starting September 1, there is no possibility to solve it before then. But we have to wait and see, I expect important talks after the Open Balkan and Erdogan's visit. We will have many mediators who will come from Europe and the world, but at the moment I don't see any possibility of progress because there is no desire on the part of Pristina to discuss rational and compromise solutions," said Vucic.

Finally, he ironically added that perhaps, after all, the Europeans know better what will happen.
