Lavrov on Kosovo and Metohija: "Russia is in favor of sustainable solution, respecting interests of Serbia"
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov stated that, taking into account the recent deterioration of the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, it is necessary to find a solution based on strict compliance with the norms of international law, based on Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council, with full respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity and legitimate rights and interests of Serbia.
Lavrov said this during a meeting in Moscow with Serbian Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin, with whom he discussed issues related to bilateral and regional cooperation, it was announced on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Before the meeting with Vulin, Lavrov stressed that Russia's position regarding Kosovo has not changed, adding that Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed this several times.
"We advocate that Belgrade and Pristina reach a sustainable, mutually acceptable solution based on Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council," Lavrov said, according to Tanjug.
He added that the solution must undoubtedly be, first of all, in accordance with international law and must be approved by the UN Security Council.
"We will only accept an outcome that will suit the Serbians. We will provide all-encompassing support to our Serbian friends in achieving that result," Lavrov said, according to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
