This time, Albanians decide to participate in Serbia's population census

The population census in the territory of Serbia will begin on October 1, and the competition inviting enumerators to apply has ended. In 2011, ethnic Albanians from southern Serbia boycotted the census. This year, they say they will participate.

Leaders of political parties from Bujanovac and Presevo and representatives of the National Council of Albanians have met and agreed to participate in the population census, reports RTS.

"I expect that through the process of selecting inspectors and through the process of selecting enumerators, that all the conditions that have been set will be fulfilled. That they will have Albanian enumerators and that the forms will be in Albanian and that they will allow all citizens of the Republic of Serbia to be registered, which means citizens of Albanian nationality as well," said Ragmi Mustafa, president of the National Council of Albanians in Bujanovac.

Albanian residents of Bujanovac and Presevo also agree, they want to know how many of them there are in these two municipalities.

"We will all participate and see what our numbers are, I guess it should be known," a local told RTS.

Those who are temporarily working abroad or are currently not at home will also be included. Relatives and even neighbors will be able to provide their personal information.

The testing and hiring of enumerators is over, and their training will begin in September.

"There should be a total of 90 enumerators and 18 replacements in the Municipality of Bujanovac. For four days now we thave been testing the candidates, 108 took the test," says Nasim Rexhepi, head of the municipal administration in Bujanovac.

In the Municipality of Presevo, 130 people applied to work as enumerators, while 97 are needed. In that municipality, there are 23 villages with a majority ethnic Albanian population.
