Today we mark 108 years since Battle of Cer: "Victory of small and proud people over those outnumbering it"

Today marks the 108th anniversary of the Battle of Cer, and the state ceremony will be led by Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Darija Kisic.

The ceremony will be held within the "Cerska Bitka" memorial complex in Tekeris near Loznica.

In addition to Minister Kisic, wreaths will be laid by representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Army, the Macva District, the City of Loznica, the City of Sabac, the Municipality of Krupanj, embassies, as well as representatives of numerous associations and citizens who nurture traditions of Serbia's liberation wars.

The organizer of the state ceremony is the Government of Serbia - the Committee for Nurturing Traditions of Serbia's Wars of Liberation.

On the occasion of the anniversary of the battle, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Dr. Nebojsa Stefanovic said that today is one of those days when we are proud of the battles crowned with glory and the great names of Serbian history, the date when we loudly remember great victories of our army and each of the names of our immortal heroes who gave their life for the fatherland.

"On this day, on the great (Orthodox) feast of the Transfiguration, the Battle of Cer ended - in heroic victory of the Serbian Army, the first Allied victory of the First World War, the victory of the small and proud over bigger ones outnumbering them," Minister Stefanovic wrote on Facebook.

He added that this is the day when the love for their only country and the big heart of a small, but proud, defiant, heroic people made history.

"We will never forget and every time we hear the first beats of the great 'March on the Drina," a song that fills the heart of every Serb with pride and happiness, we will remember our heroes who gave their lives for their fatherland, without regretting and without turning back, leaving us to remember of the eternal struggle for Serbia and the task of fighting for it. Your deeds are immortal! Glory to the heroes!," wrote Minister Stefanovic.
