Vucic: Serbia is working to calm tensions that it did not create
President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic met last night in Brussels with the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, ahead of today's continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina at the highest level.
"In extremely open conversation, I pointed out that Serbia, as a serious, reliable and responsible party in the dialogue, will continue to make maximum efforts in order to maintain peace, stability and progress of the entire region," Vucic posted on the "buducnostsrbijeav" Instagram account after the meeting.
"I especially stressed that our country, as always until now, is dedicated and sincerely working to calm all the tensions that it did not create, in accordance with a consistent policy of seeking a compromise solution exclusively through dialogue, for the benefit of all citizens," added the president of Serbia.
The dialogue follows two weeks after the tensions in Kosovo and Metohija due to Pristina's decision to impose re-registration of Serbian vehicles and ID cards, which, due to the intervention of the US and the EU, was postponed until September 1.
Previously, Vucic also spoke with the EU's special representative for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Miroslav Lajcak.
Also, earlier in the day he spoke with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and after the meeting said that the role of NATO and KFOR in Kosovo and Metohija is important for Serbia, and of crucial importance for preserving peace and stability.
Today a new round of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina at the highest level is taking place, and the president of Serbia will first talk with the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, and the EU's special envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, after which a joint meeting is planned.
