Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today that Serbia will have a Serbian government that will be taking care of Serbian interests.

He said that a new government can be expected in mid-August, because the formation of the Assembly will only happen on Monday.

Regarding a statement made by US Ambassador Christopher Hill, who said that he would like Serbia to get a pro-Western government, Vucic said that he is not here to fulfill wishes, adding that the citizens are the ones who choose, and they have chosen the government.

"I am very glad that the ambassador said he will not interfere in the selection of ministers. I'm sure they didn't interfere before, either, not in 2008, nor in previous years," Vucic said, responding to a journalist.

He reiterated that the new Government of Serbia will be tailored to suit the people, the way the citizens have voted.

"America is a great power, it's always important to show respect for it, but to be guided by our own interests. Serbia is on the European path, that path will continue, but it will preserve its values and will not extinguish its traditional friendships on anyone's demand," said Vucic.
