His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porfirije today received Aleksandar Vulin, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, in the Patriarchate in Belgrade.

Minister Vulin informed His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije about the efforts of the Serbian state authorities to preserve peace and security in the entire area where the Serb people live, especially in Kosovo and Metohija.

Minister Vulin particularly stressed the role of the Serbian Orthodox Church and its efforts for the Serb people to continue to live in peace and security in the southern Serbian province, along with the ancient monasteries and all other holy places.

The interlocutors also agreed that according to the model of how uman and religious rights of our fellow citizens of other religions and nations are protected in Serbia, we should strive to protect the human and religious rights of our people who live outside the homeland.

There was also talk of further measures that will contribute to the land taken from the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija finally being returned to the possession of the Church.

The Serbian Patriarch listened with pleasure to the announcement about the preparations for the construction of the Memorial Complex in Donja Gradina and stressed that for the Church the best model for building a culture of remembrance is the one implemented in Jasenovac itself, by building a monastery as a place of prayer where everyone, without any discrimination, can pray for the victims.

Patriarch Porfirije especially thanked and gave his blessing to the initiative to build churches and places of prayer in the facilities of the Gendarmerie and other units of the Ministry of the Interior.
