The pilot of an Ukrainian Antonov plane, which crashed on Sunday before 10 pm our time in Greece, allegedly informed the control tower that the engine had caught fire and that he was trying to extinguish it.

More and more new facts are coming to light after the tragedy that happened on Saturday evening near Kavala.

The outcome of the accident is that all eight crew members died.

On Sunday evening, one day after the tragic accident, the recovery of all eight bodies was completed.

The Greek media write about the dramatic exchange that the Antonov pilot reportedly had with the control tower a few minutes before the crash.

"Our engine is on fire. I'm trying to extinguish it," the pilot said, reporting the problem.

"Can you get to the airport in Thessaloniki or in Kavala?," asked the control tower.

The Greek outlet Star writes that the Antonov pilot said that there were several problems with the aircraft and that he would try to land in Kavala. The plane had already started to lose altitude.

It is further stated that the pilot was apparently looking for flat ground to land the plane on.

When the control tower asked for new information, the pilot replied that he was losing one instrument after another.

He did not manage to reach the airport, there was silence, and then the Antonov crashed.

The investigation is ongoing and the official cause of the crash of the Ukrainian plane, which was flying from Nis in Serbia to Amman, Jordan, is still unknown. The final destination was Bangladesh.
