Upper limit for in vitro fertilization moved from 43 to 45 years of age, in Germany it is 40

The decree adopted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia in the technical mandate yesterday made changes to the Health Care Plan from the mandatory health insurance for 2022, in the part related to the Health Care of Women in connection with pregnancy and childbirth by moving the age of women (eligible for in vitro fertilization) from 43 to 45, said president of the "Moms Rule" ("Mame su Zakon") association Tatjana Macura.

She stressed that the change comes into force the day after its publication in order to enable the provision of biomedically assisted fertilization services to women up to 45 years of age as soon as possible.

"We remind you that 'Moms Rule' strongly appealed to the Ministry of Health in several public appearances to change the protocol they announced in the March election campaign, while we officially addressed them on July 7. We were very pleased with the announcement of the president of the state in the interview he gave to Pink TV that the change will happen in such a short time," Macura told Telegraf.rs.

She welcomed the quick reaction of the ministry and the government, but expressed regret that the intervention had to happen in the first place.

"The idea of 'Moms Rule' is to completely abolish the age limit, because certainly the last word on who can and who cannot go through the complicated and demanding process of in vitro fertilization is made by a competent commission. We hope that will happen soon. The demographic crisis has not bypassed Serbia, and it is up to us as a society to do everything in our power to use all the potentials," said Macura.
