Batut Institute tells Telegraf.rs: In Serbia, 5 people have monkeypox, all of are of the same sex

From June 17 until today there have been five imported confirmed cases of monkeypox in Serbia, registered among men. The cases have been registered in the territory of Belgrade and tin he province of Vojvodina, representatives of the Batut Institute of Public Health of Serbia told Telegraf.rs.

"All cases have a clinical picture typical of monkeypox, accompanied by a rash," Telegraf.rs has been told by the Institute.

One person is in isolation in the hospital, while others are isolating at home.

Monkeypox was registered in three people in Belgrade, and in two in Vojvodina.

As the Batut Institute announced on its website, all these patients exhibit a milder clinical picture of the disease, accompanied by a rash.

Batut adds that the occurrence of monkeypox cases in several countries without a known epidemiological connection with endemic areas (western and central Africa) is an unexpected event and requires additional vigilance due to the risk of this disease occurring and spreading in our country as well.

According to the latest data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organization, 4,177 cases of monkeypox have been registered in 31 countries of the European region.
